Fairs and Festivals hold a special value in our life. They hold a lot of significance in our lives. We can never miss our Festivals. Festivals portray our religion and culture. They remind us of our splendid past. The Festival of Raksha Bandhan is the Festival of love and Brotherhood. Sisters tie sacred threads to the wrist of their Brothers, thereby reminding them of their great responsibility. All over India, Sisters whether they are married or unmarried, young or old visit their Brothers and tie a piece of decorative thread and in return Brothers make a vow to protect their Sisters from all evil. 

The word ‘Raksha Bandhan’ has a very significant meaning. Raksha means protection and Bandhan means bond. It is the celebration of a chaste bond of love and protection between a Brother and Sister. This Festival symbolizes love and harmony. This occasion comes in August. As per the Hindu calendar, it is celebrated on a full moon day. Typically, this Festival is celebrated by people hailing from the northern and western part of India. This occasion is also called by different names in different parts of the country. Some people call this Festival ‘Rakhi Purnima’, some call it ‘Kajri Purnima’.  In many states, this Festival is considered as an important day for farmers and women who have sons. On this occasion, people worship Lord Shiva. As per the tradition, the Sisters prepare a thali or a plate with diya, roti, rice and Rakhis. First, she offers prayers to God and then ties Rakhi to the Brothers and wishes for their well-being. The Brother in turn acknowledges the love with a Promise to be by the Sisters’ side always and gives her a Gift as a token of love.

BIHU

Assam, known as the land of blue hills and red river, is also a land of many feasts and festivals. Bihu is one of the most important festivals of Assam. The word Bihu is derived from two words- Bi meaning to ask and Hu meaning to give. The festival of Bihu is primarily linked to the cycle of paddy cultivation.  The festival continues for seven days. The farmers prepare their fields with great joy and enthusiasm for cultivation. The festival is of three kinds and is celebrated thrice a year. Bohag Bihu or Rongali Bihu is celebrated in April, Magh Bihu or Bhogali Bihu in January, and Kati or Kongali Bihu in October or November. GURU NANAK JAYANTI

Guru Nanak Jayanti is also known as Gurpurab. It is the holiest event of the year. Guru Nanak, the first Sikh Guru, is remembered on this day. This celebration occurs on the full moon, according to the Gregorian calendar. It is held in high regard by Sikhs. The Guru Granth Sahib is the holy scripture of the Sikhs.
