EID
Eid is celebrated by the Muslims with great enthusiasm all over the country. Muslims wear new clothes and visit Mosques to offer Namaaz. This day marks the end of Ramadan so they eat their heart out on this day. Prophet Muhammad started this tradition in Mecca first. It is believed that the Prophet Muhammad reached Medina on this day. During Eid, people raise their spirits high and enjoy a lot. They start preparing for Eid before a month. The excitement begins at the onset of Ramadan. Women start preparing for their dresses, bangles, accessories, etc, whereas Men start preparing for kurta and pyjamas. Women's and girls also apply Mehendi on their hands. Houses are decorated with lights. Some people paint their houses.
It is a believed that fasting in the month of ‘Ramzan’ purifies the soul. The prayers after fasting save them from going to hell and open the doors of heaven. Thus, they lead a pure and holy life during the month of ‘Ramzan’. They observe fasts, offer regular prayers in the form of ‘Namaz’; read the holy Koran, feed the hungry and give alms to the poor. Charity is the greatest virtue to be practiced during the month of ‘Ramzan’. Fasting comes to an end when the new moon of Eid is sighted. The sight of the new moon of Eid is considered very pious and holy by the Muslims. It is a signal for the celebration of Eid the very next day. On the day of Eid, everyone wakes up early in the morning and wear their new attires. The women's offer prayers at home while the men's visit the mosque to offer their prayer. After done offering prayers, they embrace each other and exchange Eid greetings, they wish Eid Mubarak to each other and hug three times.
It is a ritual to prepare sweet vermicelli known as sewaiyyan on the day of Eid. Kebabs biriyani, korma and more such delicious foods are prepared. Friends and relatives visit their dear ones home and eat sewaiyyan. Youngsters love Eidi. When people see moon for Eid, they wish everyone 'Chand Mubarak' as it confirms the day of Eid.
In India, all communities join the Muslims in celebrating Eid. Sweets are shared and greetings exchanged by all. The Hindus, Sikhs and Christians greet their Muslim brothers on this day. The celebration of Eid promotes national integration and the feeling of brotherhood.
It is a festival of love and goodwill. It gives us a message to love all and hate none. It teaches us to embrace all men as brothers. Separated lovers hope to meet on this day. It exhorts us to bid goodbye to hatred, jealousy and enmity and bring in an era of love, sympathy and brotherhood.
